Maintenance Technician 2 Job Description


Position Summary:  The Maintenance Technician 2 works under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance of Northeast Residence, Inc.  The Maintenance Technician 2 is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of all the program sites and vehicles.  The Maintenance Technician 2 works closely with the Program Supervisors/ Program Coordinators or Program Managers to ensure the safety of all the program sites. 


  1. MAINTENANCE:  Inspect sites for maintenance concerns.  Complete the applicable home safety checklists for licensing reviews.  Make repairs and coordinate outside repair people to complete the work when necessary.  Install locks or change locks on doors, cabinets, and garage doors as needed. Painting as needed. Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely and prioritized manner. All contracts need approval by the Executive Director.
  2. CONSTRUCTION/REMODELING:  Paint, carpet and remodel sites as directed by the Director of Maintenance and/or Executive Director. 
  3. VEHICLE MAINTENANCE:  Occasionally schedule and arrange oil changes and other routine maintenance in company vehicles. Occasionally schedule and arrange vehicle repairs. Occasionally Assess and document vehicle damage and arrange repairs as needed. Maintain assigned company vehicle by scheduling and arranging oil changes and other routine maintenance.  
  4. SNOW REMOVAL/LAWN MAINTENANCE: Assist with snow and ice removal as necessary. 
  1. COMMUNICATION: Communicate with others in a professional manner at all times.  Work through established channels of communication.  Maintain confidentiality of resident, staff, and program information within and between sites.  Demonstrate respect for individual differences. 
  2. ON-CALL: Participate in the on-call rotation. The on-call requirements are working on-call 7 days in a row including the weekend, every third week. The on-call rotation schedule is subject to change due to department needs and vacation requests.
  3. SAFETY: Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  4. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with scheduling and/or transport larger items. Assist in special events as requested. Attend scheduled in-services and maintain sufficient training in accordance with licensing regulations. Provide your own basic hand tools. All tools purchased by NER need approval from the Director of Maintenance and/or Executive Director. Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance. 


Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 75 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to work safely in an environment containing chemicals, cleaning materials, dust and noise. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions. Walking for extended periods of time is required throughout the course of daily activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The Maintenance Technician 2 must be able to demonstrate ability and competence in maintenance issues. The individual must have a working knowledge of tools, power tools, power equipment, common appliances and devices. High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Ability to pass a background check. Possess skills in effective oral and written communication including computer literacy, work order systems, and Microsoft Office. Have knowledge of electrical, plumbing, appliance repair and installation.

HOURS:  Actual hours worked will vary according to the needs of the programs.  This is a full-time hourly position.
